Privacy Policy
Who we are
OwlPocket is a personal budgeting app operated by SedegoTech LLC, a limited liability company organized under the laws of the United States. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean SedegoTech LLC, and "you" means the person using OwlPocket.
Questions about this policy or your data: support@owlpocket.com.
The short version
OwlPocket works without an account. Your expenses, categories, budgets, and caps are stored on your device. We cannot see them.
If you create an account to back up or sync your data, that data is transmitted to and stored on our servers so it can reach your other devices.
The free version shows advertising, and ad providers collect device identifiers. You can limit this in your device settings.
We do not sell your personal information.
What we collect
If you use OwlPocket without an account
Everything you enter — expenses, amounts, categories, budgets, caps, notes — is written to a database on your device only. It is not transmitted to us and we have no way to read it.
We generate a random identifier on your device and send it to our servers when the app opens, so we can count how many people use OwlPocket and how many are active. This ping contains only that random identifier, your platform, and the app version — nothing else. It is not linked to your name, email, or account, is never combined with your budgeting data, and does not identify you personally. Because it carries no personal information, it is sent whether or not you enable analytics; uninstalling the app stops it entirely.
If you create an account
- Email address — to identify your account, verify it, contact you about the service, and — only if you turn it on — send you your period report.
- Your name and profile photo — optional, and only if you set them. They are shown in the app and stored on our servers so they follow you onto another device. You can change or clear them at any time.
- Your budgeting data — once you enable backup or sync, the entries described above are transmitted to and stored on our servers.
- Your state or province — optional, and only if you enter it. Financial offers are licensed state by state, so we use it to avoid showing you an offer that isn't available where you live. We do not determine your state from your IP address, and you can clear it at any time.
- A notification token — if you allow notifications, so we can send the alerts you asked for. It identifies the installation, not you, and revoking the permission stops it.
Automatically
- Device type, operating system version, app version, language, and general region
- Crash reports and error diagnostics
- Feature usage events (for example, that a budget was created — not what it contained)
Crash reports and feature usage events are each a switch in Settings → Privacy & ads. Turning one off stops that collection; the app works exactly the same either way.
Payment
Subscriptions are processed by Apple and Google. We never receive or store your card number. We receive only confirmation that a subscription is active.
Advertising
The free version of OwlPocket displays advertising supplied by third-party ad networks. To serve ads, these networks may access an advertising identifier on your device along with general device and approximate location information.
You can limit this: on iOS, disable Allow Apps to Request to Track and turn off Personalized Ads in Settings → Privacy & Security. On Android, delete or reset your advertising ID in Settings → Privacy → Ads.
Ad providers act as independent controllers of the data they collect and handle it under their own privacy policies. Subscribing to OwlPocket removes advertising.
Partner offers
OwlPocket may show you offers from financial partners — for example a card, a loan, or an insurance quote. We are paid when someone taps one of these and goes on to open an account, and we label every one of them so you can tell it apart from the rest of the app.
We do not send the partner anything about you. We decide which offers to show on our own servers, using your country and — if you entered it — your state. The partner does not receive that decision, is not told who was shown an offer, and never receives your email address, your budgeting data, or any list of our users.
If you tap an offer, we open the partner's own website and pass along a random reference number that lets us confirm the visit came from OwlPocket. That number is not derived from your account and tells the partner nothing about you. From that point you are dealing with the partner directly: what you type into their site, and any credit check they run, is between you and them under their own privacy policy, which we link from every offer.
We record which offers were shown and which were tapped, so we know what is useful. If an offer would ever require us to send your information to a partner, we will ask for your explicit permission first, show you exactly what would be sent, and you can decline or withdraw that permission at any time without losing any part of the app.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information, and we have not in the preceding twelve months.
- We do not share your budgeting data with advertisers.
- We do not give partners your information so they can market to you. Offers work the other way around: they are shown to you inside OwlPocket, and nothing about you leaves unless you choose to go to the partner yourself.
- We do not collect your credit score, Social Security number, or date of birth, and we do not obtain your credit report.
- We do not use your financial data to train machine learning models.
Service providers
We use third parties to operate OwlPocket. Each receives only what it needs to perform its function, and is contractually restricted from using it for anything else.
- Cloud hosting — stores account and synced data
- Crash and analytics tooling — diagnostics and aggregate usage
- Advertising networks — free-tier ads
- Apple and Google — authentication and subscription billing
Legal bases for processing (EEA and UK)
- Contract — providing the app, your account, and sync
- Legitimate interests — security, fraud prevention, diagnostics, and improving the app
- Consent — personalized advertising, where required
- Legal obligation — where the law requires us to retain or disclose information
Retention
Local data stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Account data is kept while your account is active. After deletion, data is removed from live systems promptly and purged from encrypted backups within 30 days. Aggregate statistics that cannot identify you may be kept indefinitely.
Deleting your data
You can delete your data at any time.
- In the app — Settings → Delete all my data. Without an account, this erases the local database. With an account, this deletes the account and all data held on our servers.
- By email — write to support@owlpocket.com from your account email address with the subject "Delete my account". We will confirm and complete the deletion within 30 days.
Deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed. If you subscribed, cancel your subscription separately through Apple or Google — deleting your data does not cancel billing.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA or UK, you may request access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may withdraw consent at any time and may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
If you are in California, you may request to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, request deletion or correction, and opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
To exercise any of these rights, contact support@owlpocket.com. We may need to verify your identity before we act.
International transfers
OwlPocket is operated from the United States and your data is processed there. If you use OwlPocket from outside the United States, you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in a country whose data protection laws may differ from your own. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or another approved transfer mechanism.
Children
OwlPocket is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it. If you are in the EEA, the applicable age is 16 or the age set by your country.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Account data at rest is encrypted. Access to production systems is restricted and logged. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we will notify you and any required regulator of a breach affecting your personal data as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
We will post any changes on this page and update the date above. For material changes we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use OwlPocket after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
